Melbourne Photowalk a Success!

Our first photo walk was a great success! Including myself, we had fourteen people participate in the walk. A diverse group, including our choice of camera gear, with Nikon just beating Canon, and strong representation for Pentax, and even a compact, and a Soviet-era film camera!

The weather was spectactular, Melbournians were out in the city in huge numbers, and the route we followed took us through a wide variety of locations. Everyone was friendly, and after the typical first-time-meeting awkwardness, we were very soon chatting happily and comparing camera gear and swapping tips.

The roughly three kilometer walk was completed in approximately three hours, and most of the group explored Fitzroy gardens, enjoying the beauty and photographic opportunities they offered for about another hour.

I would like to thank everyone for attending, you are a lovely bunch of people, and it was wonderful to meet you all. Everyone was keen to make this a regular thing, so I look forward to organising another walk, probably in approximately one month. I hope we will see more of you there!

Below are a selection of my favourite photos from the walk. Below the photos you will find a link to the rest of my photos, as well as a link to the discussion thread on the forum where other photo walkers are already sharing some absolutely wonderful photos!

  1. Looks like you guys had a fabulous time! I love the last shot, and the one with the bauble in the hand.

  2. Stunning shots there. What a great idea and day it looks to have been.

  3. Great photos Neil. I like the way you’ve contrasted the old Melbourne against the newer buildings, especially the intricate wrought iron work and city crest on the graceful old bridge. I love the way the glass orb glows against a dark background…..
very effective. Looks like we really are “down under”! All in all
an excellent set of views of our diverse and beautiful city.

  4. Love the pictures, especially the distorted reflection. I love the idea of a photowalk. As I discover more photographers in LA (which I’m sure there are many), I’d love to participate in one or more.

  5. This looked like a lot of fun! (And perfect weather too!)

  6. Thanks everyone for the comments!

@Betty Thanks for your thoughtful comments! I do love Melbourne so very much :)

@Lisa I’m sure there are many photowalks organised in your area, you just need to find them! Try here for starters: http://www.photowalklist.com

@Rebecca It was indeed a lot of fun! You’ll have to come next time ;) I’m planning to do these once a month. It would be good to see you again too. It’s been a long time!

  7. Great day for all. I enjoyed myself immensely and managed to get some awesome portrait shots. Check out http://flickr.com/photos/lterrens/sets/72157612770131681/ for what I’ve uploaded.

  8. Fantastic idea! I am trying a photowalk and is organizing a get together for our corner of the world (Savannah, GA, USA). To my surprise on the first day I posted it two people signed up. I hope we will be as successful as your photowalk was.
