Welcome to the new Learning Photography with Neil Creek forum.

Previously, we have had discussions via the Flickr group, however, the community building tools and features of Flickr groups are sadly lacking and as a result, discussion has stagnated. I feel that a move to dedicated forum software is an important step forward for the group. Forum tools and features will make it easier to keep track of conversations, and make communicating easier and more fun. Also, as the administrator, I have much better control over how things work, and I'll be able to tailor the appearance of the forum to better match the rest of the site.

The Flickr group will still exist, and will be the primary place that we share photos. However discussion there will be discouraged, and people should be referred to this forum. Over time I'll look for ways to more tightly integrate the forum with the blog and the Flickr group, but for now, they will all still work well independently.

I look forward to renewing interest in our community here, and moving forward to bigger and better things!

Neil,
I'm also looking forward to great things from this forum.

One administrivia note--you might see if you can add to the "profile settings" page
a note about size/aspect ratio for profile pics.  I used the static link to my one
"self portrait" on flickr in small size, and it accepted it OK but then displayed it squished.
When I switched to the flickr URL for the square version, it looks correct.

Hi folks and welcome! Good to see the first couple of people making the move here Smiley

Scott- I'll have a look and see if I can find where to add some instructions for the avatars. Untill then I can tell you that they're 65x65px square images, and as you discovered, the forum will scale whatever you upload to fitl regardless of your file's aspect ratio Smiley

Hi Neil

Looks great and I'm looking forward to participating here too.

I haven't been able to do anything much online for the last month or so .. my pc is quite old ... has had lots of formats and bandaids for the last year but now it just constantly crashes and is taking it's last breaths as I type ... We have been saving our pennies for the last month and hopefully I'll be getting a new one today.

Sorry to hear that Chrissy! You won't know yourself with a brand new fast computer Smiley It'll also make it easier to process the RAW photos from your new DSLR Smiley

If anyone knows anyone else who used to post in the Flickr group, or that you think would enjoy becoming part of a photogaphy learning community, point them to the forum and invite them to join us!
