Cosplay Photoshoot on Southbank

Last Saturday I took my new 5D2 out for its first real photo shoot. I met up with some new and some familiar friends from the Manifest forums, for a cosplay photo shoot at Southbank. The sun was harsh, and the lighting difficult, but we worked around it and in the end I got some photos I’m very happy with.

Shooting with the 5D2 was subtly but significantly different from my 350D. The faster burst speed and increased buffer made it so much easier to shoot LOTS of photos, and that I did. I culled about 1040 photos down to 160. It was also very exciting and fun to be able to shoot video. Some things, such as the clips you will see below the photos, are just not possible to do justice with still photos.

The greatest challenge was the shifting quality of light as we moved around, indoors and out, and adjusting the camera to best take advantage of it. The huge ISO range, along with auto ISO added a whole new level of complexity it will take a while to master.

In short, it was great fun, slightly overwhelming, but very promising with the future potential once the camera becomes second nature to me.
