My Two Mums

Sorry about the lack of posts lately, been very busy and now I’m coming down with a cold :( I’ll do my very best to get the results for the 3D For Everyone project posted tomorrow, and the new photo project posted the day after that.

Naomi’s mum is staying with us while visiting from Queensland after attending her daughter’s wedding last weekend. While down here we payed a visit to my mum with Trish for dinner. After dinner, the two of them allowed me to take their photo. My mum (Betty) is on the left.

The lighting for this shot was specifically chosen to allow me to participate in the current assignment in Lighting 102 on Strobist.com. The idea is to gel at least one flash orange (to correct for ambient tungsten light), while the ambient or a second (or more) flash is illuminating with daylight white balance. The purpose is to explore the use of a correcting colour gel for creative purposes instead, and develop a nice warm/cool colour contrast. The bare flash to the right was un-gelled. The strobist details are below:

• Canon 580EX @1/4 geled with CTO, through white umbrella, camera high front left.
• Vivitar 285HV @ 1/4 bare, camera right.
• Camera set to tungsten white balance.
