This was something of a lucky shot! While finding a good composition for the flowers, the bee popped into frame so I quickly pressed the shutter. In the end it was perfectly positioned, and the settings allowed it to be shown sharply! This was taken with the Canon G15. Not a bad shot for a compact :)

P365 Day 78

Last night two friends and I met our friend Grug (Aka Andrew) as a surprise for his birthday at a quaint little Japanese restaurant. The surprise was complete and the food was really good. We had a great time catching up.

I captured this portrait of the birthday boy just outside the store by the light of a sign with shop lights in the background.

P365 Day 60

An old broken gate leans at the side of the entrance to our driveway. The metal is rusted, the wood rotting, and creeping plants are trying to claim it. I loved the textures so took a photo.

This was a little tricky, as I wanted to get enough of the post in focus for it to be clear, but have the beams vanishing off into the blurry distance. I tried a few different aperture settings before choosing this one.

P365 Day 38

This time of year fungi are popping out of the ground all around our place in the hills! This one was about 10cm across and one of several like it in the area.

This was a slightly tricky shot to get for a couple of reasons:

1: I wanted a blurry background, but at f2.8 too little of the mushroom itself was in focus, so I changed to f7.1. This was a great compromise, since being so close to the subject still kept the background blurry.

2: I wanted a very low angle but the ground was wet and I wanted to stay dry. Getting focus with autofocus is tricky when you can’t point the AF point accurately where you want it. To solve this I went to manual focus and set the focus ring to the shortest focal distance. I then turned on live view and zoomed in one step. This way I could crouch next to the camera, rest it on the ground and move it in and out till the stalk appeared in focus on the screen on the back.

Spontaneous Cosplay

P365 Day 4

I got word just two days prior, that a friend of Kaalli and Jess was coming to Melbourne from the country for a cosplay photo shoot. Siami was invited as a cosplayer, and I as a photographer. I love hanging with and photographing these guys, so I made some time in my day for a couple of hours for a spontaneous photo shoot in Fitzroy Gardens. Timing was fortunate, as golden hour was glorious. Link to full gallery at bottom.
