Washing day – P365 Feb04
An unusual perspective on the household chore.

I’ve already done the fridge, the microwave and the dishwasher. The washing machine doesn’t seem so odd then after all, does it?
I put the camera in the machine on the bottom (a pain to balance!), and the 580EX flash next to it. The Vivitar flash was on the bench to my right set to 1/4. The flash inside the bowl wasn’t illuminating my face enough and one side was being lit more than the other. I needed to use a diffuser, but I don’t have one of those Sto-Fen diffusers. So I just chucked a white plastic food container over the flash and bumped up the power to 1/4. With the camera set to self timer, I pressed the shutter, grabbed a handfull of clothes, and put on my typical “washing day” expression. Don’t worry, I took the camera gear out before I put the machine on :P

That’s a very unusual view ;-)

I like to look at the world in a different way :)

Very nice idea :)

Beautiful capture. But I have to ask what kind of washer you have that an agitator, typically centered in the bottom of the washer, was not in the way of a perfect shot from the center of the washer.

Timmermann, thank you, it came out of the wacky part of my brain.
Steven, it’s a relatively new washing machine, and rather than a central pillar-type aggitator, it has these three flat discs with big ridges on them that I assume do the aggitating. It’s a convenient design when fisheye photography is your aim! I’m sure that’s the reason the designers made it that way ;)

Hi,
I really like the result!!
I had this kind of shot in mind lately. Do you think I need a fisheye to do that? I have a crop sensor camera…and I should get a 10 mm lens soon..is that enough to get in a frame the whole washing machine (of course I know that I won’t get the fish-eye ’round’ effect)?
