It’s been one of those days.

This morning our aquarium “crashed”: for some unknown reason, most of the things in our tank died and fouled the tank, putting at risk the rest of the things in our tank.
This afternoon, while on a mission to get an extra filter for the tank, I had a car accident. An elderly female driver entered from a side-street, apparently not seeing me. I was travelling at the legal speed limit, and managed to slow down quite a bit before I hit. It felt like a very hard hit, and both cars were write-offs, but fortunately our injuries were minor.
I was taken to the hospital to be checked out, and was discharged an hour or two later. I’ve got a bumped knee, sore ribs from the seat belt, and a stiff and sore centre and left neck. The doctors said there didn’t seem to be any serious issues, but I can expect to be stiff and sore for the next week or so.
As for the fish tank? We’ve done all we can for now to try and salvage whatever we can, and all we can do now is wait and see. I’m not too hopefull, but sometimes nature can surprise you with how resilliant it is.
I hope to post again soon, especially to get the August project going. I’ll have to wait and see how I feel tomorrow. For now, I’m just going to take it easy. Thank you for your patience!

I hope you get well soon!
Best Regards.
Dominic
What a day! Happy to hear the injuries were not too serious. Hope you feel well soon.
Celso
I guess from the description that yours is the Toyota… It got pretty banged up… Glad you and the other driver are both OK! It’s best to have your car thrashed than you in the hospital I guess…
Best Regards
Brian Auer
Dude… that totally bites. You’d better take it easy for the next week or two.
Neil Creek
@celso Yeah, the blue Toyota is ours. I did actually get taken to the hospital as a precaution because I described chest and neck pain, so they wanted to be sure. But they let me go after an hour or so.
However, definitely better that the car take the force than I :) My thanks go to the Japanese engineers!
@Biran Thanks mate, I will. Fortunately my work involves a lot of taking it easy ;) Sitting at the desk etc.
stephen
Shoot! That wheel out one side says it all!
But better it’s the car than a human that suffers so much damage.
How’s the other driver?
the_wolf_brigade
Wow, that doesn’t look good. Had I not read your description before seeing the photos I would have expected much worse! I take it the female driver is ok as well?
Glad to hear your ok though. Sounds like a rough day….
Neil Creek
I think the fact that the cars look bad helps explain a little why we’re both ok. They absorbed all the damage, rather than passing it on to the occupants.
Right after the crash she seemed quite disoriented, or maybe in shock, but she was okay by the time we got to the hospital. She seemed fine and claimed that all she was feeling was a slightly sore hip, presumably from the door/door handle hitting her.
It is amazing really that I hit her, only just forward of her door, almost straight on the side at 30-40kph, and she can walk away with minor pain. Car designers really know their stuff.
It certainly wasn’t one of the better days I’ve had. It smells like dead coral in here (you don’t want to know what that smells like! lol). But I’m am optimist – we’re already excited about getting a replacement car :)
Mel
Woah! That is some crash, you poor thing.
Martin
Sounds like a nasty day!
It just shows that you can be adhering to all the road rules, but it just takes a momentary lapse of concentration from someone else, and it can ruin your day….
Hopefully your bruising will clear up in a couple of days – it’s very easy to get a nagging back or neck injury from an accident like that, and those nagging injuries can hang around for a long time.
Leaf
Neil I hope you are ok. Martin’s right about the nagging injuries thing, take it very easy until you are 100% better. Hope the tank recovers too. Good luck to you both.
laanba
Whoa Neil, I’m glad you are ok. I’m impressed that you can just say it’s been one of those days. I probably would have been using a lot more strong language. :-)
Sierra Koch
Holy crap :O I wish you a better day today! and…hope your aquarium gets fixed/better or whatever you decide to do with it…
Lori
Wow, Neil…what a day! I’m glad to hear that the doc expects a full recovery. It’s amazing how our lives can change so quickly, and when we least expect it. Take it easy!
Michael Seljos
Wow Neil, too bad about your mishap. Great to hear that everyone is not injured too badly. Take it easy for a while and get better soon. The aquarium problem couldn’t have happened at a worse time I guess, but that will all be corrected soon too I’m sure.
Carlos Manta Oliveira
Get better soon.
Things can only get better tomorrow. :D
Pauline
hope u feel better soon. Take your pain meds. It’s much easier to stay ahead of the pain than try to catch up.
Nathan Nontell
Sorry to hear about your rough day, but glad it wasn’t any more serious. Tomorrow is a new day!
Dawn LeBlanc
I’m very sorry to hear this Neil–but take it easy for a couple of days! I’m glad no one was seriously injured–well, except for the inhabitants of your aquarium.
Chica
Ooh! glad your ok, and it’s good to get photos for insurance purposes too!
Neil Creek
Thank you very much to everyone for your kind words. I am quite a bit stiffer and sore-er this morning, as predicted, but not as bad as I had feared, so that’s a relief. The tank, unfortunately, isn’t so good. Despite our best efforts to salvage everything we could, it looks like we’ve emptied a litre of milk into it.
Surprisingly one of the clownfish seems to have survived the night! We’re going to try and get a friend to babysit it while we rebuild the tank. I hope it can survive untill it can be picked up.

Dude, that sucks.
I hope you aren’t too stiff for too long.
At least no one was hurt.
carol browne
Oh no. That totally sucks. Take good care and I’m pulling for the fish. Thankfully, it looks like no cameras were busted in this accident, either.
Chrissy
Sorry to hear about your accident, happy to hear everyone is ok. I think ‘one of those days’ is an understatement though :o
Take it easy and hopefully the aches and pains won’t bother you for too long. As a few have said .. keep an eye on those neck and back injuries and don’t overdo it too soon, they can take quite a while to fully repair themselves. A good therapeutic massage might be the way to go once any inflammation or swelling goes down.
jen
That was a crao day you had. I’m glad you’re all ok (apart from the poor fish).
royston
Wow Neil!! What a lousy day. Thankfully you are both OK. Lets hope the recovery goes well.
denise
geez Neil, I am glad you are ok. sorry about the fish…sometimes your life just goes through periods like this. maybe it’s your planets?
take care
Mandy
Glad to hear your alright, if not a little sore!
