The Bead Society of Victoria has moved to a brand new location in the Carnigie Library. The old location had become too small to fit all the memebers comfortably. I attended the first meeting there for a little while to take some photos for the newsletter. While there I shot the following hand-held panorama. Please click through to the large version of this photo, as the small one shows almost no detail.

After hanging around for about 15 minutes, I went outside to take some photos of the library building, brand new itself. The architecture is quite modern and made for some good photos.

You may recall the beaded sign that the members of the Bead Society of Victoria made. When I made that post I promised that I would be taking super-high resolution photos of the beads for other uses. Well I finally got the time to do this today.
I plan to stitch all the letters (each one took about 10 photos to capture and is about 50 megapixels in total) into a single gigantic 500 megapixel panorama. However that will have to wait till I have a bit more time to do all that. For the time being, please enjoy this super high resolution panorama of the letter “O”. Make sure you zoom right in to see the incredible detail.
This piece was made by Noelle Walker.
Click and drag on the image to look around. Click the “+” to zoom in, the “-” to zoom out or use the slider.
The viewport for the panorama must necessarily be small in order to fit it into my blog. I have a version with a larger view window on my web site. Please visit this version for a proper look at this incredible piece of art. I will upload the full panorama when I’ve finished it.
3D bracelet and space ship – P365 Feb24

I had a play around with some 3D photography for the first time in quite a while. This time I also experimented with macro 3D photography. It takes all the challenge of 3D photography, adds it to the even harder challenge of macro photography, for a super difficult challenge! But I think the results are pretty darn cool :)
The first photo is a regular 3D photo of one of Naomi’s beautiful wirework glass bead bracelets. I thought this would make an interesting 3D subject due to the detailed structure of all the beads, plus the interesting reflections and refractions from the glass. The second photo is a macro close up of the same bracelet.
Finally the third photo is a bit of fun with one of my Star Wars Micro Machine toys, shot with macro extension.

In each issue of Connect, the Bead Society of Victoria’s quarterly magazine, they feature a member’s bead challenge. This time the them was “Seaside”. This detailed necklace which was made by Carmel Manley was voted most favourite by fellow bead members.
Following that is the setup for the shot, for those interested.
