My dad has a small collection of phosphorescent minerals, so I took a photo of him with them. We used a UV LED torch to light the rocks, and I used a flash on its lowest power setting, through two sheets of paper to give just enough light on dad to separate him from the background.

Naomi bought this beautiful piece of translucent blue agate at a gem show, and I wanted to do it photographic justice.
I used a Canon 580EX flash at 1/4 power in a Lumiquest Softbox LTp with the stone resting on a sheet of paper directly on top of the softbox (which was facing up).
I put another flash (a LP160) beside me on the desk pointing at the ceiling for a soft bounce-back illumination of the front of the stone. A couple of power tweaks were needed to balance the two flash sources with the second flash ending up at 1/2 power.
